CONFERENCE INTERPRETING

I have always strived to understand more about the world and share this knowledge with others.

That is why I chose to become a conference interpreter.

I help organisations ensure smooth communication at international events. I support my clients at all stages of their project, from needs analysis through to the provision of interpreting services.

My name is Olga Skorupka. I am a freelance conference interpreter accredited with the European Institutions. I help organisations create multilingual events. I am a native speaker of Polish, working from English, French and Spanish.

ABOUT OLGA

I have been working as a conference interpreter for over 11 years. In 2011 I passed my accreditation exam, which means I can interpret, i.a. for the European Parliament and the European Commission.

I graduated from the English Philology Department at the University of Lodz, and I hold a diploma of European Masters in Conference Interpreting from Warsaw University. I also studied interpreting at Institut Libre Marie Haps in Brussels, Belgium and Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Santander, Spain. My language learning journey took me to Great Britain, France, Belgium and Spain, where I worked, volunteered and made friends.

I love to organise events, and I believe I can understand event managers well. For four years, I owned and managed a travellers' cafe; I coordinated talks, author appearances and catering services.

I am a great fan of alternative coffee brewing, cycling and independent travelling.

YOUR BENEFITS:

I am an interpreter myself. That is why I choose qualified booth partners and reliable equipment, which translates into quality and customer satisfaction.

Teams for multilingual events

I create teams of multilingual interpreters. They can work from more than one foreign language into Polish, so that you can streamline your budget.

Personalised approach

I will clarify any doubts and suggest solutions best suited to the character, scale and budget of your event.

Confidentiality and standards

I adhere to standards on confidentiality, quality and working time set out by professional organisations, e.g. Polish Association of Conference Interpreters (PSTK).

COMPREHENSIVE INTERPRETING SERVICES

I provide interpretation and take care of your project throughout its lifecycle. I advise on the interpreting mode, create teams and supply interpreting equipment.

SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING

Live interpreting. You can see the speaker and hear the translation at the same time. A team of interpreters, a booth and technical support are required.

CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING

Speaker talking, pause, interpreter talking, pause.
No equipment required. This mode significantly extends the duration of a meeting.

WHISPERED INTERPRETATION

Simultaneous interpretation without a booth. The interpreter whispers directly into the listener's ear. Suitable only for very small groups.

TRANSLATION

Do you need your conference materials translated? I'll be happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Contracting interpreting services might be a challenge if you are not a language professional. You will find the answers to the most frequent questions below:

Question: How does simultaneous interpreting work?

Answer:Simultaneous Interpreting (SI) is about analysing content in the source language, processing information and producing linguistically correct speech in the target language, all at the same time. Scientists have not been able to fully explain the processes underlying SI.

Question: How does consecutive interpreting work?

Answer:The interpreter accompanies the speaker and listens to a few minutes of their speech. Once it's finished, the interpreter recreates the speech in the target language using their memory and notes. Public speaking skills and self-confidence on stage are essential.

Question: Why are conference interpreting services priced per day?

Answer:The interpreter reserves the whole day for a client and usually can't accept another job on the same day. A daily fee includes the time spent on preparation before an assignment. This can take hours or even days of work.

Question:Why do interpreters work in teams?

Answer: Simultaneous interpreters experience high levels of concentration and stress. This is why they have to change over every 30 minutes. The second team member helps the interpreting colleague by checking terminology or writing down numbers and reporting potential technical issues.

Question: Are sworn translators the same as conference interpreters?

Answer:No. Sworn translators are not required to master simultaneous interpreting and consecutive note-taking techniques. They don't have to be experts in public speaking. Conference interpreters don't usually interpret in court and are not allowed to authenticate official translations. However, some language professionals work in both roles.

Question: Are interpreters experts in every field?

Answer:Unfortunately not. Although, similarly to journalists, conference interpreters have vast general knowledge and understand many industries, the quality and fidelity of their work depends on the quality of background materials they receive from a client.

Let's organise a quality event!

Language, culture and specialised terminology are the tools of my trade. I dedicate myself to honing my skills on a daily basis, along with my colleagues.

Do you know the uncomfortable feeling when you can't fully express what you have in mind, because of the language barrier? I believe everybody who studied a foreign language must have experienced it.

We are getting better and better at speaking foreign languages. We are able to communicate in many contexts, but there are certain situations when confidence and ease of expression are needed – when we want to present research results, attract investors or promote a new idea.

Where content really matters, it's worth using professional interpreting services. Let the speakers share their energy and ideas in their own language.

Look after your guests and listeners, with conference interpreters taking care of the words for you.
